About
My name is Julia Marie Thompson and I am the founder of Julia's Farm STL. Although born in Honolulu, Hawaii, I was proudly raised on the northside of Saint Louis. I am a black urban farmer, herbalist and most importantly an advocate in my community for nutritional wellness. My passion for farming started with a sweet voice from my neighbor Ms. Rosalind Singleton, yelling over the fence. "Hey, I need to use some of your yard! I have 14 tomato plants and I ran out of room." We made a deal, I told her to give me the plants and tell me what to do and she can come and harvest.

In 2018, my life forever changed as I tended the land and prepared it to receive a stalk that went on and produced a plethora of tomatoes. In this year I learned a level of patience I've never known and started to understand the healing that comes from the soil. I thought that if there is power in just the soil alone, what happens when you grow and eat from the exact soil? This took me on a journey of where my food comes from.
Through apprenticeships, training and personal experiences, I discovered my true purpose in life. In 2005, I was asked a question and it went on to be published in my 9th grade school yearbook, "If you could be any vehicle, what would it be and why?" At a young innocent age I replied, "If I could be any vehicle, it would be a bi-state bus so that i can pick people up and help them along the way."
I am thankful to be able to encourage and educate my community on the importance of eating well and knowing where our food comes from. I started Julia's Farm STL with a mission to empower my community with the tools needed for self sustainability through urban homesteading. If we know where our food comes from and the importance of being nutritionally well, we can control our health.
